Cyclist Grazed by TriMet Bus Mirror

Monday, I was riding northbound on N Williams, hugging the left side of the bike lane, as I normally do when passing parked cars [in order to avoid the door zone]. At about NE Thompson, I was startled by a light "thwack" on the left side of my helmet. My instant thought was "tree branch", but my startling carried on as a TriMet bus passed me within an elbow's reach.
I realized my helmet had been grazed by the bus's side mirror.

TriMet's Employer Express Passes is one of the programs not on the table for budget-slashing proposal. FY13 should mostly mirror FY12.

"You know these are unfortunate. We reflect the community and as such, things will happen in the community. They will also happen on TriMet at some point," said TriMet spokeswoman Mary Fetsch.

Crime statistics show that the attack was not unusual for the area [Old Town at MAX, Greyhound Bus, and train station]. Over the past year, there have been more than 165 assaults within a half mile of Tuesday's attack." [ Man's neck broken in attack on Portland MAX platform].

Could you not find a better word than 'unfortunate', Mary? That is the biggest understatement I've heard in a while.

The MAX turnaround solar panel project is almost done! The damn thing that won't even pay for itself in its life span!

Crews are putting the finishing touches on the large solar-panel structure at the MAX turnaround near Portland State University (also clearly visible from I-405). The new clean-energy system has 253 solar panels that will generate more than 64,000 kilowatt hours of electricity and shave nearly $5,000 off of our power bill each year (but it cost you how much?). Plus, it will serve as an eye-catching landmark for the south end of Downtown. It’s the largest solar project in Downtown, and the first along the MAX line. We'll flip the switch later this month! ~TriMet

KGW Reports on a recent MAX attack near Union Station

Sorry about the video color--blame it on a screwy, old tv and a video camera that just made it look worse.
