Let's see how broke TriMet really is...
First we'll start out with the only reasonable job position TriMet has open:
That's understandable. I'm not going to go demonizing that because 1) it doesn't pay a lot, 2) TriMet should have more operators to cover their bus line, and 3) most of all: IT ACTUALLY PROVIDES SERVICE.
But oh do they get better....
Here's the next one:
$49,142.00 - $73,717.00 per year? Well that's not horrible, but still, as it looks to me, unnecessary. TriMet cannot go and say they're broke if they've got money to throw around like this.
And does it provide transit service? Nada.
That's not bad....but they get worse!
Another director of idiots! Brilliant!
$89,305.00 - $111,631.00 annually? What happened to this whole 'we're in a $17 million budget hole' thing?
Does it provide transit service?Nope.
And do they really need another damn 'director' of something? It's absolutely absurd the number they have simply at the moment. And now TriMet is going to hire another one? You've got to be joking. These are the sort of positions that should be on the table to be cut instead of on the table to add more!
And here's the worst of them all:
Now TriMet claims that this person will not actually be hired by TriMet nor paid by them--it is a city of Portland or state job. My question, then, is why is TriMet the one to post the job opening on their website? It's quite misleading on one hand.
The other side of this is if TriMet was lying to us and this person will be paid and work for them (would that surprise anyone?) is, how are they to afford it if they're so hopelessly broke? When and since TriMet announced this, they've acted like the sky was falling, but yet they then turn around and put a job opening up for
$145,443.00 annually? That doesn't sound like they're broke to me (and they're not fooling anyone else, either).
And that's right: it sure as hell doesn't provide transit service either.
NOW HERE'S THE BEST PART:
IN THE MIDST OF ALL THESE OPEN JOB POSISTIONS/HIRINGS TRIMET HAS THE NERVE TO POST THIS:
LAYOFFS?? LEMME GUESS....OF THOSE PEOPLE YOU JUST HIRED? NAAAHHH. ONLY POSSIBLE LAYOFFS OF PEOPLE WHO YOU WANT TO GET RID OF BECAUSE THEY HAVE MORE THAN HALF A BRAIN.
(And, seriously, MAX, streetcar, and especially WES service cuts? Ya right. I'll see it to believe it, but not a second sooner)
Another stupid transit agency--just like TriMet!
Transit advocates allege 'false choice' between MBTA fare hikes, service cuts
Boy, doesn't that sound familiar? Just trade out MBTA for TriMet and it'd be the same.
