MAX FAQS on Budget “choices”
There is an anticipated $12-17 million shortfall in TriMet’s operating budget for next year. In response, we’re given a false dilemma of a survey (as OPAL put it, “big fare hikes or really big fare hikes!”) where we’re presented with the illusion of choice on “some of the options” being considered – you’re not given all the options, just a few of them. Then after you’re done deciding how much service you want to cut and how high fares should increase (since you absolutely have to pick those to meet the $17 million mark), you can submit your answers to TriMet.
It makes fun of itself

I don't think I could do a better job of making fun of this than TriMet has themselves.

TriMet shows off bridge work
Cause, lookey here! We've got a few poles in the ground and we're wasting hundreds of thousands of dollars!

MAX Screw-Up Saga
It all began on December 1st....
December 1, 2011:
Due to overhead power issues at 32nd Ave., shuttle buses are carrying Blue, Green and Red line riders between NE 7th and Gateway. Riders should plan their trips accordingly and expect delays.
December 2, 2011
Surprise! It's December 3rd and MAX has screwed up once again leaving TriMet's bus fleet to bail out MAX yet again.
December 3, 2011
Shuttle buses are replacing MAX service between Sunset TC and SW 11th Avenue due to a collision between a MAX train and a car at SW 18th and Morrison. Riders should
expect delays.
December 6, 2011
Due to police activity at Willow Creek station, MAX Blue Line service is disrupted. Riders should expect delays. Due to police activity at Willow Creek station, shuttle buses will transport riders between Orenco and Merlo. Expect delays.
Because of this freak out, one of the 67 buses was hijacked for the bus bridge because MAX was shut down to Willow Creek and since another of the 67 buses broke down, riders were left out in the cold waiting for a bus that might never come that night.
The fear alert is over...it wasn't a bomb:
WHEW. Good thing that wasn't a bomb...now what's this? Just again the next day the whole MAX system got messed up and buses were called out again for the rescue?
December 7, 2011
Due to a commercial power outage, MAX signals and switches are affected through the Rose Quarter and Union Station. Blue and Red Lines are on regular routes but are experiencing delays. Green and Yellow Line trains are looping on 5th and 6th avenues downtown and not crossing the Steel Bridge. On the eastside, Yellow Line trains are traveling between Expo Center and Rose Quarter and then east as a Green Line train to Clackamas Town Center. Shuttle buses are also transporting people from Rose Quarter to 5th and Glisan. Riders should expect delays.
UPDATE: Due to the commercial power outage, shuttle buses are transporting people from Rose Quarter to 5th and Glisan.
Then just the next day a MAX had a collision with a car in NE Portland and once again the system was down and buses were called out again to save the MAX
December 8, 2011
Due to an incident involving a MAX train and auto at NE Holladay and Grand, MAX Blue, Green and Red Line trains are disrupted. Shuttle buses will transport riders between Rose Quarter and Lloyd Center stations. Riders should expect delays.
Then just a few days back we got a reminder of how brilliant TriMet's MAX system is, but strangely, there was absolutely no word I saw from TriMet about it, yet there is no doubt that MAX had delays.

@pdxcommute Max crashed into car on SW 6th and Stark. Looks like they'll be backed up for a while
What fun will show up next?
