Two Year Marker
Today marks the two year date of TriMet being without a contract. Two years ago today, the last one expired.

Very true: we only have enough coal in the continental USA to last 350 years. So we'd better quit burning it now. Natural gas and oil may only be around for another 500 years, so we need to quit burning it now.

The president of the TriMet union will not spend any time behind bars.
A judge sentenced Jonathan Hunt to a diversion program yesterday.
He was convicted of DUII last week.
Hunt was arrested last December when police say they found him asleep at the wheel at a Gresham stoplight.
His blood alcohol level was nearly twice the legal limit, police say.

Bus rider punches driver in face
The boy was angry when he boarded the bus and began to scream obscenities at the driver, which caused another passenger on the bus to call 911. The youth's ticket fell to the floor as he tried to put it in the fare box, but he continued to move to the back of the bus.
The driver called the youth back and asked him to stop swearing. The young man then sucker-punched the driver in the right eye.

Veteran C-Tran dispatchers keep eyes on the road
In a single room at the agency’s Vancouver headquarters, dispatchers monitor several radio channels at once, watch computer screens mapping C-Tran buses’ locations, communicate with drivers about traffic conditions and mechanical problems and answer phones. Above it all, a small stereo — playing The Beatles and other old standards on this day — adds to the well-orchestrated cacophony.
An anonymous voice comes over the radio to check in, one of about 90 C-Tran drivers out on the roads. He doesn’t identify himself. He doesn’t need to.
