Freeloaders

Michael Andersen
Interesting Q by columnist: Why are TriMet freeloaders fined $175 when auto parking freeloaders pay $34?

I did not know that...good question.

I've got a new blog

No, not a new transit geeky blog like this one, rather a completely different kind of blog.
Tonight, after the idea sat in my head for weeks, I finally made a blog to display some of the pictures (transit related and not) that I take on a daily basis to share them with people.
Go check it out if you like digital photography: www.pdxoregonlife.blogspot.com
The blog is only just getting off the ground, though, so don't expect much tonight.

What do you guys think?

Michael Andersen
As usual,  has an interesting suggestion: TriMet should sell 2h fare for $2 & 4h fare for $2.50
I don't know about this....but it definitely is an interesting idea.

Too Big To Fail

As it turns out, there are no American companies that produce girder rail - which is what light rail and streetcar trains roll on. Every square inch of it comes from overseas. That's some serious green.

Come on! We gotta get our backbone service back to our transit system! we need our bus service back!

Portland commuting survey released

“When you think about the transit system: it’s part of the character of our community - you couldn’t imagine this region without it,” said TriMet’s Mary Fetsch.
But one critic of Trimet’s transportation plans and spending says developing light rail is driving away customers.
“Putting in light rail that goes to very few places by its very nature is irrelevant to customers that live all over the region. It’s the bus system that uses the ubiquitous road system, that’s where the future growth is,” said John Charles, Jr. of the Cascade Policy Institute, which is based in Portland.

Save us, buses!

TriMet

Due to police activity at SW 16th and Yamhill, MAX Blue and Red line service is disrupted. Shuttle buses are carrying riders between Galleria/SW 10th Ave and Goose Hollow stations .However, the police perimeter is not allowing buses to stop at Kings Hill/SW Salmon St or JELD-WEN Field. Expect delays.

Oregon City to TriMet, Amtrack: please improve service.

“By all of us working together, I really think we can make strides in making our transit system — our communities — even better,” McFarlane wrote.

To Neil's comment up there, in other words, he means just further expanding the MAX system and continuing to degrade the bus system.
Could we expect anything more?
Good luck with your wish, Oregon City. How many days will it be until we hear of MAX to Oregon City?
Or, Oh! I know! STREETCAR to Oregon City! Boy would that be efficient!

Call out the buses!

To bail out the MAX, again...
holding trains @ Goose Hollow for police activity. Working on putting together shuttle buses.

And TriMet has yet to send any notice out to riders. This was sent out by Koin Local 6
Hey! Look! KGW is joining in!

SW Morrison closed between 16th & 17th Aves. in Portland due to police activity. TriMet also impacted.
But KGW isn't as helpful...

For the 51 riders' sake, I sure hope this mechanic truck isn't down here for the 51 that is due in here any minute.

Remembering that I have to do something called homework tonight, I revise my promise to post about the board meeting to 8:00 or 9:00pm.

trimet tracker by txt

"@trimet: TransitTracker by Text users, we resolved the issues with how the times were displaying. Please let us know if you see further errors."

"@trimet: Transit-Tracker by Text users with T-Mobile, there's a temporary patch so you'll receive a response from a different short code than 27299."

So sad. A few years back there used to be a cute little pier here,  but then it got torn down. This is the remains.

A whole lot going on at the board meeting! I'd post things, but I don't have my laptop. Look for info on what happened at todays board meeting on my blog later tonight! (Around 6:30ish).
