Comedy gold

The newspapers have finally gained access to the pension records of retired Oregon public employees, after nine years of hide-the-ball by the state's PERS system. The media went to court to get the information, and the pension fund has settled the case by agreeing to disclose it. Thus, in a short while, we'll be reading all about who's getting what out of the PERS till. No doubt there will be some outrageous stories, and outraged taxpayers, included.

In Loving Memory of Patchy

Patchy was 12, almost 13. We first got him as a tiny, fluffy kitten when i was only 2. He passed away a few days ago, but I only found out today.
Patchy is the white and gray ragdoll to the left.
He always loved sitting in boxes or big bags.
Happy cat. He was never the typical Ragdoll.

Bus driver who killed pedestrian was fired illegally, Appeals Court rules

A bus driver who in 2010 was fired for killing a pedestrian on a zebra crossing after working 14 hours was illegally dismissed, a court has ruled.
The Appeals Court decided that the driver, fired by transport company Vimeca after running over a pedestrian during his 14th hour of service, was unjustly discharged.

Oh how delightful. I knew seeing that sign that popped up today at the top of SW Broadway dr. was bad

Road repairs will force detours on Portland's Southwest Broadway Drive for 12 weeks
These repairs are happening on that same stretch of road that was damaged last winter. Astounding that they hadn't completely finished it by now, huh? For the last while, since it was reopened, it has been drive-able, but not pleasant in the worst part of the road that was damaged: the guard rail that should be next to the road is still some ways down the side of the hill and there is a quite unpleasant, jolting bump in the area as well in that small stretch.
They say 'detours'. Now, I'm not sure what their definition of a detour on this road is, but this is the city we're talking about.  I live up near Patton road, so I know the area well: there is no straightforward detour to get  you from where you would normally head up SW Broadway dr. to get up to SW Patton and SW Vista. Or at least I've never heard about one or found one.
Then we have the question of why didn't they do this over the 3 months of summer? Wouldn't that be better because there would be less chance to have the project delayed by imminent Portland rain that we always get? Winter is only months away.
