TriMet making the individual cities pay themselves if they want some bus shelters

because TriMet couldn't care less about the bus riders. They're only focused on how much more they can ramble on about this great thing about MAX or that great thing about MAX.
http://www.oregonlive.com/west-linn/index.ssf/2011/09/west_linn_installs_new_bus_shelter_near_citys_va_clinic.html

Oh look at this! Let's praise our MAX some more!

Milestones reached in Portland-Milwaukie Light Rail project | The Bee
Okay, honest to god, I'm getting really sick of all the past few weeks of each day seeing some new article or post on how MAX is amazing this; MAX is amazing that; look at our baby MAX, it's 25! Let's praise our new boondoggle the rotten orange line now! Oh boy. Let us make this little puff piece on how we've reached a MILESTONE in this project! Oh this is just so great, doncha know? We have reached (drum roll please...) a time where.....(more drums) the project is underway! AND we’ve reached the 60% point on our drawings! Yippeee! Now let's have a party!
Do ya see where I'm coming from? You can't make me believe that you're not getting sick of it, too. This is getting a little ridiculous.

Boring wants TriMet out

Boring residents (just 45 of them, actually) petition for withdrawal from TriMet | Oregon Live
Everybody reporting this stuff, especially from Boring keep focusing on the fact that the line 84 service is crappy and that is why they need TriMet gone, but what about the 2 dozen+ that use the LIFT service? What will they do if Boring cuts TriMet away? Will Boring provide some sort of transit service for those people or will those disabled people just have to deal with it? Boring has said nothing about what will happen to the LIFT-dependent people. If this goes through and TriMet submits to Boring's wishes, the people who once depended on LIFT to get where they need to go because they had no other way will now have no way at all. Boring can't just make the minority suffer if they decide to cut TriMet because, though the number of residents that use the LIFT service are relatively small in the big picture, they are the ones who depend on it the most.

Hot weather and MAX don't mix....but we love rail!

Is It Good News or Bad News that Gas Prices Will Soon Be Significantly Higher?

At some point, Americans need to pay the piper for the 100 years of subsidized, artificially low gas prices. In other words, we cannot forever violate economic or environmental principles. Nor can we violate the laws of physics. One hundred years of very cheap gas means that Americans have been conditioned to establish unsustainable lifestyles. Lifestyles that naively assumed cheap gas would last forever. And that, of course, is impossible. By assuming gas would always be cheap, many of us are stuck with lifestyles that cannot survive the inevitable rise in gas prices.

2010 DARWIN AWARDS

You've been waiting for them with bated breath, so without further ado, here are the 2010 Darwin Awards.

Eighth Place
In Detroit , a 41-year-old man got stuck and drowned in two feet of water after squeezing head first through an 18-inch-wide sewer grate to retrieve his car keys.

Seventh Place
A 49-year-old San Francisco stockbroker, who "totally zoned when he ran", accidentally jogged off a 100-foot high cliff on his daily run.

Sixth Place
While at the beach, Daniel Jones, 21, dug an 8 foot hole for protection from the wind and had been sitting in a beach chair at the bottom, when it collapsed, burying him beneath 5 feet of sand.People on the beach used the ir hands and shovels trying to get him out but could not reach him. It took rescue workers using heavy equipment almost an hour to free him. Jones was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Fifth Place
Santiago Alvarado, 24, was killed as he fell through the ceiling of a bicycle shop he was burglarizing..Death was caused when the long flashlight he had placed in his mouth to keep his hands free rammed into the base of his skull as he hit the floor.

Fourth Place
Sylvester Briddell, Jr., 26, was killed as he won a bet with friends who said he would not put a revolver loaded with four bullets into his mouth and pull the trigger.

Third Place
After stepping around a marked police patrol car parked at the front door, a man walked into H&J Leather & Firearms intent on robbing the store. The shop was full of customers and a uniformed officer was standing at the counter. Upon seeing the officer, the would-be robber announced a hold-up and fired a few wild shots from a target pistol.
The officer and a clerk promptly returned fire, and several customers also drew their guns and fired. The robber was pronounced dead at the scene by Paramedics. Crime scene investigators located 47 expended cartridge cases in the shop. The
subsequent autopsy revealed 23 gunshot wounds. Ballistics identified rounds from 7 different weapons. No one else was hurt.

Second Place - RUNNER UP
Kerry Bingham had been drinking with several friends when one of them said they knew a person who had bungee-jumped from a local bridge in the middle of traffic. The conversation grew more excited, and at least 10 men trooped along the walkway of the bridge at 4:30 AM. Upon arrival at the midpoint of the bridge, they discovered that no one had brought a bungee rope. Bingham, who had continued drinking, volunteered and pointed out that a coil of lineman's cable lay nearby. They secured one end around Bingham's leg and then tied the other to the bridge. His fall lasted 40 feet before the cable tightened and tore his foot off at the ankle. He miraculously survived his fall into the icy water and was rescued by two nearby fishermen. Bingham's foot was never located.

AND THE WINNER IS....
Zookeeper Friedrich Riesfeldt (Paderborn, Germany) fed his constipated elephant 22 doses of animal laxative and more than a bushel of berries, figs and prunes before the plugged-up pachyderm finally got relief. Investigators say ill-fated Friedrich, 46, was attempting to give the ailing elephant an olive oil enema when the relieved beast unloaded.
The sheer force of the elephant's unexpected defecation knocked Mr Riesfeldt to the ground where he struck his head on a rock as the elephant continued to evacuate 200 pounds of dung on top of him. It seems to be just one of those freak accidents that proves... 'Sh*t happens'

HONOURABLE MENTION

Paul Stiller, 47, and his wife Bonnie were bored just driving around at 2 A.M. So the y lit a quarter stick of dynamite to toss out the window to see what would happen. Apparently they failed to notice that the window was closed.

A new game! How miserably can you fail this test?

Exercise of the brain is as important as exercise of the muscles. As we grow older, it's important to keep mentally alert. If you don't use it, you lose it!
Below is a very private way to gauge how your memory compares to the last test. Some may think it is too easy but the ones with memory problems may have difficulty. Take the test presented here to determine if you're losing it or not.
The spaces below are so you don't see the answers until you've made your answer.
OK, relax, clear your mind and begin...

1. What do you put in a toaster?
?
?
?
?
?
?
?
?
Answer: 'bread.' If you said 'toast' give up now and do something else..
Try not to hurt yourself.

If you said, bread, go to Question 2.
--------------------------------------------------
2 Say 'silk' five times. Now spell 'silk.' What do cows drink?
?
?
?
?
?
?
?
?

Answer: Cows drink water. If you said 'milk,' don't attempt the next question. Your brain is over-stressed and may even overheat. Content yourself with reading a more appropriate literature such as Auto World.
However, if you said 'water', proceed to question 3.
----------------------------------------------------------

3. If a red house is made from red bricks and a blue house is made from blue bricks and a pink house is made from pink bricks and a black house is made from black bricks, what is a green house made from?
?
?
?
?
?
?
?
?
?
?
Answer: Greenhouses are made from glass. If you said 'green bricks,' why are you still reading these???

If you said 'glass,' go on to Question 4.
--------------------------------------------------------

Don't you remember your own age?
