Oregon City's 6 week trafficapolypse; a better bike seat; TriMet changes: Commuting roundup
Good news from TriMet: The No. 9 is going to start going over the Broadway Bridge after what seemed like more than a year of detours (actually, that's how long the route has been helter skelter). Now, the bad news: Fares are going up again this week.

The next story is going to be the realization that there's no money to put it all back together the way it was. The states don't have the money. The federal government is obviously broke, and an awful lot of the individual households and businesses will turn out to not have any insurance coverage for this kind of disaster where it was water, not wind, that destroyed the property. I don't know what the score is insurance-wise along the mid-Atlantic beachfront towns - but remember, insurance companies were among the biggest dupes of the Big Bank mortgage-backed securities racket, and when the new claims are toted up they may find themselves in a bail-out line.
This is a warning to America that the converging catastrophes of climate change, energy scarcities, and failures of capital formation add up to more than the sum of their parts in their power to drive a complex society into a ditch - no matter what a moron like Rick Perry might say. But, of course, political ramifications will follow. There will be a lot of pissed-off people in the Northeast USA. Maybe they'll even start giving the grievance-bloated folk of Dixieland some competition in the politics of the bitter harvest.
Always Read the Fine Print: CRC Edition
Why do they put this out on a Friday afternoon, the slowest news period of the week? Well, because when you read more closely, you'll see that it now appears that the CRC will not be done until 2021 or 2022--if all the funding comes in as planned.
Also, this announced budget savings make no allowance for funding delays. A one-year delay, by their estimate would cost $57 million, which would erase a majority of the newly announced cost savings.
As per usual, this makes no sense to me, but I'll post it anyways

TriMet raises fares, adds service and cracks down on fare cheaters in Portland area
The number of $175 fare-evasion citations issued by the transit agency has jumped five-fold over a year ago, according to records obtained by The Oregonian.
In another sign that TriMet is sticking to its late-July pledge to shift "from education to enforcement," the numbers show that freeloaders are now far less likely to get off with a slap on the wrist.
During the first two weeks of August, for example, TriMet gave 345 verbal warnings, down from 952 in 2010. Meanwhile, the agency handed out 1,025 fare-evasion citations, a dramatic surge from the 233 issued during the same period last year.

Looks like trimet got the bus stop sign fixed, but with only 1 of the 3 route numbers on it that should be there:

This is what it looked like last week:

Now this is an interesting idea
Muni may open all doors on buses for boarding
My only wonder is how they would prevent fare evasion by letting people board through the back door

Max having issues
Due to mechanical issues with a westbound train at Old Town/Chinatown, all westbound MAX trains are experiencing delays up to 30 minutes.
