TriMet Holiday Service: Labor Day is coming
And we all know what that means: screwy TriMet service!
Labor day, this year, falls on Monday, September 5th meaning that MAX, Streetcar, and Bus will all be running on Sunday schedules while WES riders get no service at all.
This means just about 90% of bus riders won't get service at all thanks to TriMet cutting back on so much service in the past years.
Here's TriMet's official page about their holiday transit service.

Wanna know the process that Boring is using to cut away from TriMet?
It's called 'opting out of TriMet'. Thanks to Portland AFoot (love this blog), we now know.
Save the date: On September 5th MAX Blue Line turns 25!
Aw. Isn't it just so cute how proud TriMet is of this? No doubt in the next day or so we'll hear about TriMet's plans for some sort of celebration for this amazing event.
TriMet: Celebrating 25 years of MAX Blue line to Gresham
Well, they're right about one thing: it is the line that started it all.
And if you're a MAX light rail nut, here's TriMet's MAX light rail history.

On the 72 again. I'm glad that the screaming kids that were sitting behind me are no longer on this bus. #trimet #parentingfail #myears
Sigh. Deer wanted public transport too. Minimal delay #trimet
It's so cute when new riders walk up and down the MAX car looking for good seats. Sorry, the daily riders dove to them already! #trimet
Bus driver just had to reboot her #Trimet bus to get the back door to open. Yes you heard me. When do I start rebooting my toaster or shoes?
If this kid doesn't stop picking at various areas of his body and then looking at his fingers, I will vomit. #Trimet
This guy on the train looks like someone who has seen everything but is pretty sure something new is just about to happen. #trimet
Still can't decide whether to feel sketchy or privileged gulping vicodin on MAX. Priviletchy? Dude, don't stare... Prescription! #trimet
When the bus driver says thats good, dont continue to put money in and make us late! #Trimet
Oh #trimet every bus tonight has taken a half hour or more to come.. You're so consistent!
Trying to get around on #trimet is such a ridiculous waste of time so far I've had to wait over 30 mins for both buses.
Just exchanged pleasantries with a very friendly #TriMet #Max red line driver. He's taking us to a gloriously sunny downtown Portland now.
There are some interesting smells happening on this bus right now. #trimet
please, Please PLEASE bathe before you get on the MAX. Tight spaces and stinky people do not mix. #portland #trimet
Thank God for noise canceling headphones. #trimet
Oh, now the driver is on the phone. Now he's off the phone and pulling away. WHAT, ME, WORRY? #trimet
Dude on the MAX bought the whole Lance Armstrong starter kit. Old guys in spandex represent! #trimet
"Would you let your MOTHER sit in that seat after your DOG?!" - Crazy old lady to dog owner. SINCE WHEN DOES #TRIMET LET OLD CUNTS RIDE?
Really? "I'll be right back," the bus driver said before exiting the bus and going into 7-11 to buy a soda. #trimet
Driver of the 44 literally has the front half of the bus on the edge of their seats listening to his stories. Awesome. #Trimet
sarahesterman Time to play my favorite game (not): 'where the hell is my bus?' #trimet
Curse thee, MAX car 403A, for thine streamlined vanity that bears the bitter fruit of butt discomfort. Curse thee. #trimet
U.S. rail boosters are missing the bus
Now across my laptop comes news of another area in which private sector actors have overtaken government. Again an older technology has been improved and adapted to fill a need, while government dithers. The old technology in this case is buses.
While the Obama administration has been desperately seeking to spend $53 billion on so-called high-speed rail lines, private businessmen have developed Chinatown and Megabus lines that provide intercity service that has attracted legions of price-conscious travelers.

Now she's gone, and I don't worry

The hurricane has passed through New York and vicinity, and already the talking heads on the telly are talking about it in the past tense. The sun's back out at the Jersey Shore. But there's all sorts of flooding to deal with, a lot of property has been damaged, and a dozen or so people have lost their lives. It's a wicked mess, but it could have been worse.
Now they're interviewing Michael Chertoff, who when it came to disaster response proved to be a great lawyer. That's got to be the clown being brought out to end the show.
