Breaking news: Bicycling isn't practical

That's why you pair it with riding transit. that's what i do.

Are We Living In A Nazi State?
Are Portland Police ever going to stop their persecution of young black males in this supposedly avant-garde city of ours? Sure he may have been taking a small portion of business away from TriMet's Max train profits, but Zach was only trying to earn a living. I'm sure you're going to ask what exactly was Zach doing to provoke an arrest for Interfering With Public Transportation and there is a perfectly reasonable answer for that.
Tolls now, new bridge later?
And the guv is talking about "phased" construction now. That's when you start building something before you let on how you're going to pay for it. Once you get it a quarter of the way built, you tell the public "It's too late to turn back now," and force them to pay through the nose for something that they wouldn't have wanted if they knew what it would cost them. They're doing that with the delusional Tri-Met Mystery Train to Milwaukie, and now the technique will also be applied to the I-5 bridge.
Crazy directives
One of the operators was having a problem with his front doors.
He was instructed by dispatch to use only the back door and remain in service. (incredible huh?)
The operator hung up on the dispatcher.
The dispatcher finally decided that using the back doors to board and deboard passengers probably not a good idea so he sent a mechanic instead.
(It was the same dispatcher I had a problem with)

THE CREEPY STATUE
f art is supposed to be evocative,Seyed Alavi's "Rebirth" -- a giant deer with a child's face, most likely to be painted yellow -- is certainly a success. The statue is the $250,000 public art to be installed at Park Avenue station when the Portland-Milwaukie Light Rail is completed, and the project's latest target for ridicule.
It's going to be painted yellow? Oh, that makes it so much better.
This creepy thing costs $250,000? Really? That's absurd! Don't build it. Please chose something else for this Max station.
"If $1 million of our taxes go toward paying for this art, I don't want to pay for it," said Linda Hedges of the Hector Campbell neighborhood at the meeting.
Yea! That person has got it right!
"I'm totally pedestrian about art," Bird said.
What does that even mean?

Eleanore Hunter, Oak Lodge Community Councilchairwoman and member of the art committee, said she thinks the deer will be a great icon for Oak Grove, and can be used as a community space, such as for farmers markets underneath.
"It's going to be a thing that's going to help this area get known," Hunter said.Really? A great icon? Since when? That thing just scares people.
"The deer, really, has riled up enough people that it's time to revisit it," she said.Yes, please, forget this idea and scrap it. That thing is like something you might see in a bad nightmare, so please don't build it. We're begging you.
Here we go again
Another parent-child separation on the MAX, this time at an eastbound platform at the Yamhill District Station. The two were reunited quickly, but yet the Mother has filed a complaint. This coming even after it was her fault. She says TriMet needs more boarding time to get on MAX. Now where have we heard that before? Maybe the last time this was reported to have happened?
TriMet fare inspectors
Far less than a quarter of TriMet's total annual revenue comes from fare sales. If TriMet spends just about the same amount -- or even greater -- to administer and enforce a fare system, it is a waste of money and also a lost cause. In fact, even the current system of enforcement does not make any financial sense, as TriMet is clearly losing money by enforcing fares.

Bikes on TriMet
Bikes on TriMet
TriMet is spending $1.4 million to build new bike-and-ride facilities. That's an awful lot of money to spend on facilities that aren't going to be used any more than the one at Sunset Transit Center -- which averages just 1.2 bicycles a day. Cyclists want to have their bikes with them when they reach their destination.
A simpler, less costly solution to bikes on MAX would be to install more bike hooks on the trains. On a recent trip downtown, I counted 11 bikes in one train car. There are only four hooks in each car, and only in the newer trains. Cyclists had to place their bikes in aisles and doorways, which created great inconvenience for the other passengers.
How much would adding four more hooks per car cost? Certainly not $1.4 million.

In the type 2-4s there would be room in some areas for more bike hooks. Next to the current bike hook spaces, there is room for two hooks for two bikes--I've seen it before. I have also seen some quite interesting ways to deal with the space issue. One time i saw a pair of cyclists get on and one had their own hook that he hooked to the yellow bar above the bike space next to his friend's bike and hung his bike there with room to spare.
Why i don't ever need to use the bike and rides is the same reason mentioned above: when i ride TriMet i need my bike with me at the end of my trip. Adding more bike hooks in at leas all the low floor max cars would be a great idea and should be done. TriMet needs to do something about it.
