Transit Outside of TriMess
Highland News | News | Passengers set to log bus problems
This is quite interesting. There's an idea for TriMet!
Arlington bus strike enters second day | Liz Essley | Local | Washington Examiner
So...they're not fired? At least things aren't this bad at TriMet...yet.
Volvo Secures $231 Mln Worth Order For 328 Buses From MTA New York City Transit
New buses! New buses! Lucky transit district! Gotta keep 'em rollin! Boy, if only TriMet would give us these nice sounding buses...but that is only a dream.....
Muni drivers should accept arbitrator's decision
"You should because we said so. Screw you if it hurts you. We don't care." Is basically what it seems they are saying here. And operators cannot be treated like a piece of machinery here. They shouldn't stand for it.
Contract means more money for Muni : City Insider

Portland AFoot
TriMet has seven volunteer board members, all appointed by the state’s governor. They’re the only people at TriMet whose job it is to represent the public interest. In the last year of covering the agency, six of them have agreed with each other on, as far as I can recall, every single vote.
Are they six rubber stamps?
The board’s chair, TriMet President Rick Van Beveren, says they have a big influence on the agency – but not during meetings.
TriMet is good at wasting money.
Their latest boondoggle is something called TriMet's Bridgecam. Two online video camera feeds allow you to watch Portland's newest bridge go up. Exciting.
My questions are the same as Erik has posted on the comments in the Oregonian post about it that I linked to above.

It's interesting how we bus riders hear that there's no money for this, no money for that. One prolific transit blogger even complains when I point out that TriMet has stopped maintaining bus schedules at most bus stops, claiming that it's better to put that money into service instead of posting schedules (which is a well-studied and demonstrated amenity that increases ridership - people actually like to know when their bus is coming.)
So...TriMet now has money to pay for two live, streaming video cameras for this bridge? Let's see - cost of cameras. Cost of electricial feed. Cost of internet connect. Cost of streaming web server. How much money is that? And how much transit service is provided by that cost? (the last time I checked the amount of "service" provided was ZERO.)
Why is it that TriMet can't spend money on actual transit amenities like, gee, letting people know when the bus will show up? But when it comes to the endless promotion of rail projects, there's never an end to the money...
