TriMet: See where it doesn't take you
![]() |
| Don't you just love those gilligs in the new paint scheme? They look so good! Almost like new! (until you ride in one, that is) |
So, apparently TriMet has decided to induce some cuts on some bus lines for a few of the trips...unknown to at least me until now. They are all set to go in place in a week from now, beginning on June 6th. I found all this info on TriMet's Future Service Alerts page.
Happy investigating.
"[Trip times] will be adjusted up to 15 minutes"?
What is that supposed to mean?
"Due to low ridership, service between Washington Square Transit Center and the stop on SW Stratus at Nimbus will be discontinued. Trip times will be adjusted up to 15 minutes."
Service is being cut! Now when was TriMet gonna tell us that (or did i just miss it)?43-Taylors Ferry Rd
"The trip to Willow Creek Transit Center that leaves from NW Springville at 178th at 2:35 p.m. will be discontinued for the summer."Aka, that trip will be cut, too!52-Farmington Rd/185th
"...Stop ID 4221 at SW Knight and Forestry Center will close."Stop closed! 63-Washington Park
"The trip to Hollywood Transit Center that leaves from SE Powell at Milwaukie at 3:19 p.m. will be discontinued for the summer."
Another bus line with trips being cut. Now, it says it will be 'discontinued' aka, cut for the summer. Will TriMet actually add it back next fall?

Some weekday times will be adjusted by up to 12 minutes to increase service reliability. Due to low ridership, the last three weekday trips between the stop at SE Powell on Milwaukie and the stop at SE Jackson on Main will be discontinued. The last weekday trip to Milwaukie will leave Rose Quarter Transit Center at 10:30 p.m., and the last weekday trip to Portland will leave from SE Jackson at Main at 10:01 p.m.
Cut, cut, cut! Man, does TriMet love to do that to their bus lines!

The trip to Parkrose/Sumner Transit Center that leaves from SE 52nd at Franklin at 3:27 p.m. and the trip for Clackamas Town Center that leaves from SE 52nd at Franklin for Parkrose Transit Center at 3:24 p.m. will be discontinued for the summer.
More cuts to the bus! And I'm still curious if when TriMet says 'discontinued for the summer' they really mean just that or they actually mean it is just going to be gone for good and the 'discontinued for the summer' claim is just to sugar-coat it.

Weekday, Saturday, and Sunday schedules will be adjusted, and some trips will change by up to six minutes.
'Some trips will change by up to six minutes' and 'weekly schedules adjusted'? So more wait time for those 75s?

As a permanent route change in Troutdale, the Line 77 will travel on Halsey and 257th to Frontage Road. It will no longer serve Glenn Otto Park. Trip times will be adjusted up to four minutes.
Aw, no more service to the park...why the change, TriMet? And why are trip times going to be adjusted?
As a permanent route change in Troutdale, Line 80 [and 81] will travel on Columbia River Highway to Glenn Otto Park.
I want to know why TriMet is changing this. Both the 80 and 81 do not go anywhere near downtown, so you would have to go through a (pain in the ass) transfer if you wanted to get to Glenn Otto Park starting in downtown. Why not just have all three bus lines go to the park or keep it the way it was? I want to know why TriMet is changing this.
What do you readers have to say about this? (*comment*cough, cough*comment) :)
**oh, and sorry for the funky settings for the font size and where some things have decided to place themselves. I've tried, but i can't fix it.After the Tornado: The lone competitor left at Joplin High
"You need some sort of common bond to give you collective strength in times of despair and toughness," he says. "(Sports) is a common landscape, a common language. No matter what your race or your religion or your ethnicity or your socio-economic background, sports speaks to us all.
"Tragedy doesn't discriminate, either. If there is a horrific event, rich people are hurt and poor people are hurt and so is everyone in between. A tornado can wipe out an entire town. This girl epitomizes this hope against ruin -- it can flow throughout the community and speak to the larger world beyond the athletic field."

talk about a one sided view on the subject. A LOT of people simply can't walk home from school for one reason or another. We are not just lazy. We need our TriMet passes and access so we can get to school and back!

It is not surprising that that didn't work. But assuming that one thinks it's a good idea, why not hook it up to the turn signal? The little lever that the bus driver uses to illuminate the signals could have two stops in each direction -- the first one without the announcement, and the second one with.

"The new agreement is important in that it recognizes the contributions made by district employees. It also illustrates that when you work together, rather than against one another, compromise can be achieved," Hunt stated.
