How to drive a bus on the Portland Transit Mall
COULD TRIMET MANAGMENT DEVISE A MORE CONFUSING MAZE OF RULES AND REGULATIONS?
Now, i wouldn't put it past TriMet to manage to find an even more confusing mess of rules and regulations for the mall...

That mall was badly designed. Putting aside the fact that buses and various max trains weave back and forth through each other's paths to serve the many stops, the biggest mistake when constructing the mall was allowing cars/bikes on the mall. As it is now, that mall is a mess and it honestly surprises me that there haven't been many collisions down there. Kudos to the bus and MAX operators that go navigate down there everyday with no collisions! Shows how good TriMet operators really are. You might not like all of them, but they're real professionals and great drivers (minus the 0.00001% of crappy drivers).
I think that TriMet should see if they can restrict the transit mall to TriMet vehicles only. It would make it a tad less confusing, and anything to help would be good! And considering the number of cars/bikes I've seen blast down the transit mall in the bus/ max only lanes...

Former Oregon City Commissioner Dan Holladay, who was co-chief petitioner for he ballot, said people didn't want to spend money to fix Multnomah County's problem.
"I think it was a jurisdictional isse people understand htat we have counties for a reason and counties are supposed to take care of their own stuff," he said.

How to lose a kid in 10 seconds
...the operator is responsible for the safety of the train as a whole (which includes being prepared to stop if a car or person enters the right of way), but passengers have to show personal responsibility as well. While no one wants to intentionally separate a child from his or her parents, it really is up to the parents to look out for the safety of their children on and around the trains because that’s part of being a parent, and it is not part of an operator’s job description to be a babysitter.

MAX on the Mall
Comment from that post:
It isn't the MAX, it's the bus. Didn't you know that within one hour, TriMet spokeschick Bekki Witt already blamed the bus driver of being at-fault for running a red light?
The Oregonian reported that a MAX rider claimed to see the light turn red, even though it would have been extremely difficult to see from the passenger area of a MAX train; and it would have been difficult to judge if the bus was in motion or not - if the light had just turned green, what was the MAX signal indication? Was the orange bar still flashing?
When MAX craps out, TriMet insists on a "full investigation"; yet when there is a bus Operator to blame, the spokeswomen can usually issue a public guilt statement within one hour...something is screwed up with that process.

What Brookings Has to Say About Portland's Transit Equity
A recent Brookings Institute report puts Portland at the 12th best transit city in the U.S. This has gotten a lot of local media play because it contrasts with a recent popular media publication that put us first (more than a few of us were skeptical about that, if happy to accept the accolade).

And so what does the U.S. government do? Officially stop paying attention, thus providing further cover for the Japanese. If there was any doubt that the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission was still a house of industry call girls, it's been removed.

TriMet is having a tough week!
MAX train hits TriMet bus on 6th Avenue in downtown PortlandAnd it's only Tuesday!
This is what happens when bus drivers get crappy bus schedules that are hard to keep to--they start making bad decisions!
And this was a line 45 bus so it probably didn't have a camera in it, but what about the MAX train? I would think the MAX train would have a camera that caught most or all of this collision.
MAX train strikes woman near Convention Center!

Sounds like this was completely her fault. You people gotta be smarter around MAX! This woman was lucky she wasn't seriously injured or killed.
