TriMet bus gets pushy in Southwest Portland bike lane
I say the bus should have waited. In the video, the bus operator likely could've seen the cyclist and yielded before making the stop. (Has anyone seen the bus surveillance video? Has TriMet released it?)
That would've been the safer option.
Sure, if the cyclist was far behind the bus and the bus then had to pull into the stop the cyclist would've had to wait or go around to the left, but under these circumstances, the bus operator was at fault.
I bike a lot around buses and have been doing that for many years and have only had one problem with a TriMet bus (very minor thing with a line 15 bus).
This incident with the line 54 bus was just a one time incident where the operator made a mistake.

Very Clear Where TriMet's Priorities Lie
“Obviously, we don’t have money to add back service now,” Fetsch said. “When we do, our top priority is restoring frequent service on bus lines and rail.”

*sigh* yup, we get it, TriMet. Restoring bus service to lower ridership lines is too much to ask....
