TriMet admits poor service to Boring
Estacada News
the way i think about it is: at least they have bus service, even if it is poor. TriMet is neglecting all their bus lines.

Don't be too quick to dismiss the Lake Oswego Streetcar
Second, while bus service is critical, along Highway 43 buses will be stuck in traffic with the rest of us. And because of that traffic buses are less reliable and cost more to operate than streetcars.
Yet all through the article, the writer does not once mention how much the LO streetcar would cost...
This is why i don't usually like to post Oregonian stories all too often. Fact check on that quote, anyone?

*sigh* Well, if they're going to keep building more of these things, might as well waste more money on them and make them more energy efficient
TriMet uses fed grant to give energy a brake
Funds pay for new regenerative braking equipment
BY JIM REDDEN
TriMet has received a $4.2 million grant from the Federal Transit Administration as part of a federal effort to understand the benefits of capturing energy generated by the brakes on MAX trains.
The funds will allow TriMet to install energy storage units on 20 of its 120 light-rail vehicles. Although only expected to save $168,000 a year in energy costs, the results will help the FTA evaluate a new regenerative braking system that could be used by other transit agencies.
TriMet did not have to put any local funds up to obtain the FTA grant.
So. Max is on the brain again. Not to say it was ever off and, god forbid, on buses again. No, it wasn't. Along with the impending start to construction of Milwaukie Max in summer 2011, TriMet will also begin installing these energy storage devices on some of their Max trains sometime in 2011 as well.
TriMet did not have to put any local funds up to obtain the FTA grant.
But couldn't they have asked for a FTA grant for...buses? Even after the bond measure failed, that doesn't mean the old buses of TriMet's fleet don't need replacing. Yes, i understand that these new energy storage units will save money, but they're not saving a lot, and whatever they do save will probably be put back into other Max funding deals, like the Orange line.
I wonder if these energy storage units could be used on Wes? That system is a black hole with all the money TriMet has wasted on it and is losing from it, but if these units could be installed on the Wes trains, maybe that could make Wes a little bit better. It does run a long ways too, so this, if possible to be used on it, could very possibly be useful on the trains.
TriMet has employed regenerative braking on its MAX trains since 1997 with the introduction of the low-floor models. It only saves energy when there is an accelerating train in the vicinity of the braking train. This method uses 70 percent of the energy produced.
The new storage units — also called energy capacitors — will release the stored energy to help power those trains, as well as other trains on the system. This method will allow the use of nearly 100 percent of the power generated by the braking trains.
Well, this sounds like if it was adapted (if it had to be at all) that TriMet could use it for Wes too. Yes, they are just testing the system, but they've only got two Wes trains that are regularly used, so why not? Who knows, it might just turn out to save some of TriMet's money going down the drain thanks to that train. Why not try it, TriMet? 18 Max trains could be fitted with the energy unit and 2 Wes trains.

A tragic death on Barbur Blvd
EMS, It's a good life :-)
Along the line 58 route on Canyon Rd between at about SW Canyon lane and SW Canyon and 87th, there are almost no streetlights along there. You cannot even see the bus stops until you are right next to them. I'm wondering the history of incidents and accidents along there like this...

Money, Money Everywhere....but for something other than Max? Why of course not!
