Excellent Post by Portland Transport!
The Portland/Suburbia Divide | Chris Smith
"If one thing was clear from the past election, it's that there seems to be a growing rift between the City of Portland and its suburbs concerning land use and transportation issues. (Unless explicitly indicated otherwise, only the Oregon suburbs are discussed in this article--parts of the metro area in Washington State are not part of the discussion)."

Now, after reading all of these reports, to me, it sounds like this was just another bicyclist who ignored road signals and the law and decided she was going to go whether the train was coming or not-arrogant rider. I may be a cyclist as well, but I'm taking TriMet's side of this--it was the bicyclist's fault, her own stupidity.

Has TriMet learned NOTHING from the last time they decided to chain up buses?!
TriMet Email Updates: Service Alerts: Winter weather advisory for Saturday, Dec. 18
"The forecast shows a potential for snow early Saturday morning, primarily in east county. Some buses will be chained in advance. Check alerts for more specific info tomorrow morning."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Please, please, please tell me TriMet is not doing this unnecessarily AGAIN. The forecast shows for possible snow to MIX IN with the rain. And that probably won't even happen. Come on TriMet, think about some of this stuff BEFORE you do it. It'll save everyone, especially bus operators and passengers, a hell of a lot of headache tomorrow for buses that have chains on them.
When the buses have chains they can only move at a max of 25mph and cannot go on the highway because of speed limits. It completely screws up service.
Don't do this, TriMet!
smart people here
TriMet's bus lines that run along highways or other similar types of roads should have the bus only lanes on those highways so that when the highway gets really backed up (like it does every night on Sunset hwy), the buses, like the 58 can stay out of that and keep their schedule. I'm pretty sure it'd cost a whole lot less than light rail...
